Katie Harmon

Katie is a senior from Dallas studying Middle East and North Africa Studies in the Pardee School with minors in History, Global Medieval Studies, and Classical Civilization. Her academic focus within her major is Persianate Studies, from classical antiquity, to the Middle Ages, to the modern period, and the nationalistic tendencies within the nation states of the Middle East. Previously within the International Relations Review, she was an online writer for the Africa section, associate editor for the Africa section and then the Europe section, and finally Senior Editor for the Europe section. She is now Senior Editor for the Middle East section.

Outside of IRR, Katie is working on her senior thesis about Persian Kingship’s creation of a distinct form of Persian nationalism, as well as further developing her non-profit think tank, the Student Research Institute. In her free time, she enjoys reading everything from Nizami to Shakespeare, watching 2000s movies, cooking, throwing the ball to her dog, and spending time in the mountains.
